There is always a need for business leaders who can contribute to the knowledge base of contemporary business, and never more so than the present. Addressing this need, NCU maintains a dynamic Doctor of Philosophy program that gives Learners the tools to make these contributions.

NCU's Business PhD online program helps the doctoral student learn through rigorous reflection on their own professional experiences, through in-depth exposure to the insights offered by the world's leading organizations, review of classic and cutting edge theory and research, and mastery of methods and techniques to identify, assess, understand and communicate strategically critical knowledge.

As stewards of the discipline of Business Administration, NCU's Business PhD online Learners focus upon the creation of new knowledge in Business Administration in a program which emphasizes research and preparation for scholarship and systematic inquiry. The dissertation comprises original research intended to establish a Learner's research competence and to produce an original contribution to the body of knowledge in Business Administration. An oral defense of the dissertation is required.

Objectives

Given the growing need for professionals trained to contribute to the knowledge base of contemporary business, the University offers the Doctor of Philosophy Business PhD online degree which emphasizes research and preparation for scholarship and systematic inquiry, and requires a dissertation. The Business PhD dissertation is significant research intended to establish a learner's research competence.

Requirements

The Business PhD online degree requires 84 graduate semester credits beyond the bachelor's degree. Applicants may transfer into the Business PhD online program up to 30 graduate credits. An additional 3 semester credits may be waived if the Learner has demonstrated the 11 Core Professional Competencies (CPC) in prior undergraduate or graduate coursework.

Dissertation preparation courses will account for 24 of the 84 credits required for the Business PhD. A comprehensive assessment is required prior to approval of the dissertation proposal. To satisfy the dissertation requirement, the Learner researches and reports on a topic in such a way as to contribute original research findings to the discipline and the academic community’s body of knowledge.

NCU's School of Business and Technology Management offers the PhD online in 21 areas of specialization. These specialized curricula are developed and continuously updated so that Learners can earn advanced education degrees equipped with expertise in depth for areas of their particular interest or concern.

Learners who complete at least 18 credits in a specialization may elect to have that specialization recorded on their transcript and diploma. A specialization is not required. Electives may be taken from any graduate level course in the university.
